Duties & Responsibilities

  • Shape the financial strategy of ambitious SMEs and owner-managed businesses, acting as their senior financial adviser and guiding boards through critical decisions that drive growth, resilience, and long-term value.
  • Transform financial insight into action by leading budgeting, forecasting, and performance reporting, turning complex data into clear, compelling narratives that influence strategic direction.
  • Safeguard clients through expert governance by ensuring rigorous financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and high-quality statutory reporting that supports confident, informed decision-making.
  • Lead high-impact client conversations in regular board-level meetings, challenging assumptions, identifying opportunities, and providing the forward-looking advice clients rely on to navigate change and accelerate growth.
  • Build deep, trusted advisory partnerships by becoming a key strategic voice for clients, collaborating seamlessly with audit, tax, payroll, and wider teams to deliver a cohesive, insight-driven service.
  • Strengthen clients’ financial foundations by identifying emerging risks, designing robust controls, and advising on improvements that enhance stability, efficiency, and long-term sustainability.
  • Elevate finance capability by coaching and developing in-house or outsourced finance teams, embedding best-practice processes, and empowering them to operate with greater confidence and strategic awareness.

Requirements

  • Fully qualified finance leader (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with a minimum of two years’ experience at Director level and the professional credibility to advise boards, challenge thinking, and shape strategic direction.
  • A proven advisory specialist with experience delivering high value outsourced finance solutions within a practice environment but could also suit a Finance Director with practical experience in a relative industry.
  • Strong background supporting UK SMEs across diverse sectors, bringing commercial insight.
  • Commercially astute with the insight to influence financial strategy, identify opportunities, and guide clients through complex decisions with clarity and confidence.
  • Exceptional communicator and relationship-builder who can inspire trust, lead board-level conversations, and translate financial insight into compelling, actionable advice.
  • Experienced team leader elevating capability, and fostering a high-performance, advisory-driven culture.
  • Excellent presentation skills and ability to deliver clear, persuasive insights to senior stakeholders, shaping conversations and influencing outcomes.
  • Experienced in growth and transformation environments with a background supporting scale-ups, high-growth businesses, or turnaround situations where strategic financial leadership is critical.
