Job summary

Trainee Accountants provide a high level of support to our Managers and Partners on a variety of accounts work for clients and with administrative tasks. Trainees will be studying towards an AAT, ACCA or ACA qualification at Galloways, having either recently graduated or completed A Levels.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Supporting Managers and Partners in preparing:
    • Statutory financial statements for Limited companies, partnerships and sole traders.
    • Personal tax returns, partnership tax returns, and corporation tax returns.
    • With ad hoc administrative tasks as required.
  • Providing bookkeeping support, including accurately recording financial transactions and maintaining up to date client records.
  • Performing control accounts reconciliations, investigating, and correcting any errors.
  • Performing bank reconciliations.
  • Drafting and sending client correspondence, such as covering letters and emails.
  • Maintaining data security throughout all interactions with sensitive information in accordance with our data protection policies and procedures.
  • Keeping up to date with current legislation and complying with rules relating to post qualification education.
  • Supporting with account submissions to HMRC and Companies House, including filing of statutory and client account documents in line with data protection policy and guidelines.
  • Recording all communications with clients on the appropriate systems within the firm, including the document management system IRIS, Outlook etc.; and
  • Keeping a record of time spent on all client activities during the day and posting them onto the time recording system daily.

Persons Specification

  • Minimum of a 2:1 degree or higher, if applying for ACA/ACCA training pathway.
  • Minimum grades of A*, A or B / Distinction*, Distinction or Merit at A Levels in relevant subjects, if applying for AAT pathway.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Well organised with the ability to work accurately under pressure and manage work deadlines;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • High level of logical problem-solving skills;
  • Strong team working skills;
  • Technically proficient in IT;
  • Able to confidently build relationships with both clients and the internal team;
  • Flexible, positive and responsive to client business needs; and
  • High level of integrity and ethical approach to work.
