On 11 March 2025, the 27 member states of the EU voted unanimously to adopt the VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) package. Although the UK has left the EU, many UK businesses trade with the EU and it is important to understand future changes.
ViDA is a package of measures aimed at modernising the EU tax systems and is split into three key pillars:
- E-Invoicing and digitalisation of reporting requirements
- Imposing VAT on online platform economies
- Single EU VAT registration and expansion of the One Stop Shop
